Gears 5 takes the gamer into uncharted territory on discovery through frozen worlds or otherwise inhabited by alien forms of life in the futuristic cosmic lands. The main character, Kait Diaz is haunted by her past and needs to decipher the haunting nightmares and headaches she has so that she can deal with issues such as prohibited scientific experiments that led to the formation of mutants who now threaten humans.

In Gears 5, Kait needs to fight aliens while examining various underwater laboratories as well as fabricated stories made up by a scientist who hoped to gain control over people’s lives.

Kait fights with the help of her team, including new technologies such as robot Jack that has various devices at its disposal, including making the team disappear for some time. In Gears 5, Kait needs to travel through a frozen land on a skiff through ice lakes, where gamers need to learn how to steer amid rocks and snow. The main ability that allows gamers to get through missions involving mainly saving people is good shooting skills as well as knowing when to use appropriate weapons. At times, they need to get through the fire or radiation sites, so the gaming experience is not limited to just aiming at targets. They need to deal with mutants who range in their sizes and various ways they attack. Some appear as flying leeches, others can jump, but most have weapons.
